self portrait softened cropped and flippedI’m Kate Hobbs and started my photographic challenge in 2012 by taking photos everyday and posting at least one on my blog.

I bought myself a new camera in the summer of 2011.  The original aim of the blog was to get better at taking photographs.  I’ve seen a gentle progression in my style and what makes a good photo – to me at least.

You have probably seen something similar around WordPress or on Facebook already.  But don’t let that put you off visiting me from time to time.

My goals at the beginning of 2012 were:

  • to see a progressive improvement in the standard of my photographs over the year
  • to receive constructive feedback from readers about the shots
  • to give myself room for failure but to learn and grow from that

Well, nearly 3/4 of the way through the year I can certainly say that these goals are being achieved.  Now, in 2013, I’m still taking photos and working on how to expand away from the computer only.  Maybe it is time to let my photographs go wild!!  They shouldn’t stay on my computer.  I think they need to take on new life in the form of photos in frames, or blown up to poster size, or even minimised to cards and encouragement bookmarks.

There is so much more to come.

Thank you for joining me in this experiment and learning experience.

Hope to talk soon

    Hi Kate

Your photo’s are beautiful. I also have a new camera and I am learning how to use it so it is good to talk to someone in the same boat but not up to the photo challenge at present.

Again thank you for the beautiful photos.

    • HI there.
I found that the Weekly Photo Challenge from WordPress was where I started. I didn’t contribute every week because I didn’t have enough photos, and the subject didn’t fit. But I have entered on some occasions and the response from the photo community is great. Try it some time.
thanks for visiting and I look forward to seeing more of Australia.

  2. Hello and congratulations! You’ve just been awarded the Versatile Blogger Award. I do enjoy reading your posts. There is no pressure to take part, but if you wish to know what it entails, click on: http://n0ts0creative.wordpress.com/2012/03/23/versatile-blogger-award/

    Have a great weekend!

    • Wow. thank you for your award. I am very honoured. I am just so fortunate to have made such good friends while blogging, doing something that is a hobby, and to be increasing that circle. I enjoy what I am doing and I hope you enjoy seeing the results. I’ll take a look at your post now. Thank you once again.

  3. Hi Kate, thanks for stopping by my little corner of wordpress. In your list above I think #4 is the most important. Without the fun, why bother. #’s 1-3 pretty much go hand in hand, a little bit of each and soon your friends will be begging for a print to hang on their walls 🙂

In my humble opinion, based on what I’ve seen looking around your blog, you are on your way!

  4. Hi!! How nice was to find your blog!! Nice photos!! I’m taking the one photo per day for a year type of challenge too!! And I also started on May 1st this color and theme project similar to what you are doing!! Keep up with the good work!!

    • Thank you Camila. Taking a photo a day is a challenge and it forces me to take photos whatever the circumstances. They may not be perfect, but that is the way you learn. I think I will be giving the colour theme a rest for a week or two, having already done two weeks, and then come back to it.
I’m going to take a look at your blog and I wish you all the best in your learning journey too.

  5. I think your blog is great and I’m looking forward to reading more, the photos are beautiful. Have a great day!

  6. Great job Kate. I’ll be following along. Peace

  7. Have fun! 🙂
I really like your fine way and art of photography.

    Keep up the good work.

    Greetings from the far North

A photo a day is a great way to improve your eye. The toughest challenge is to make a picture on those bad days which we all experience frommtime to time when life gets tough and we don’t feel like using a camera. Best wishes for your continued success.

    • thank you Peter. The daily challenges certainly forces you to use the camera, and to help you push through that feeling of only a perfect photo is good enough. It is a steep learning curve at times.

  9. Lovely to meet you Kate. I look forward to your photos. Best of luck!
