22nd August 2012 – Butterflies and Skinks

Blue is the colour of the day today.  My two photos contain blue:  a juvenile Western Skink and a Mourning Cloak Butterfly.

Both were a surprise to find, and both were a delight to watch.  The Western Skink was hiding in the crevices of a wall.  If it wasn’t for the bright blue tail, I would have missed it.  Apparently, as they grow, the tail darkens and the bright blue disappears.

The Mourning Cloak butterfly landed on my husband’s bright blue shorts!  Out of the blue you could say!!!  What a delight.
