The garden is full of colour. It’s almost as if it is at full speed, exploding with colourful flowers, accommodating bees and butterflies, drinking in water, producing seeds ensuring survival next year. Yet, even the garden, in all it’s splendour has to take a rest.
Sometimes the summer heat gets too much. Here in the Okanagan, when day temperatures get high, and remain so, flowers and vegetables stop growing. It’s their way of conserving themselves. When the temperature drops, they start growing again! Nature is so clever.
For me, when the summer temperatures get too hot, I’ll sit in the shade and rest too! Well, one can’t work too hard.
As Nat King Cole sang back in 1963…..
Roll out those lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer,
You’ll wish that summer could always be here.
