14th July 2012 – Inukshuk

We travelled back from Calgary today, through the Canadian Rockies, back to the Okanagan Valley.  Stopping for a rest from driving, I found this inukshuk sitting on a bench at the Kicking Horse River Rest Area on the TransCanada Highway (Highway 1, BC).

Made from unworked stones, inuksuit (plural of inukshuk) are a means of communication within the Inuit community, meaning quite simply “someone was here”.

You can get more information about these wonderful creations at InukshukGallery.com
