21st May 2012 – Opening Time

For many of us, the warm summer sun has set in motion an explosion of colour and riotous splendour as the spring flowers avail themselves of the light and warmth.  This is what we wait for – for so long.  Now that it is here, let’s enjoy it while we can.

Yesterday, I posted wild mountain flowers.  Today, here are a couple of cultivated flowers embarking on their ‘life’.  I love the way that they slowly unfurl themselves and open their ‘arms’ to the sun.  It is a ballet in slow motion.

As a quick aside: both these photos would have fitted into my last two weeks of ‘colour’ themes: A week of red and A week in purple.  Unfortunately, they weren’t flowering then, but they are NOW .
