17th May 2012 – Not strictly purple but……

I found this wonderful Fritillaria today on a mountainside.  There were a number of the single variety of this Fritillaria affinis all at various stages of development, from just budding to being fully open.

I have never seen a Fritillary in the wild before and just marvelled at its beauty.  This variety can have a purple base, but I think this one is more claret than anything.  Anyway, this is an extra photo for today, just because………
