17th May 2012 – A Week in Purple – Purple Flora

Today is the day for posting flowers.  I have two photographs for today, one of which will be very familiar to many, yet the second may not, because it is not often seen.

Lilac:  Available in white, lilac or deep mauve/purple and various shades in between; a deciduous shrub often found in gardens and along urban side walks.  The fragrance is heady and can be over powering but I wouldn’t want anything else.  I love it.

Manual Exposure, ISO 100, F5.6, 1/200, 35mm, used additional flash to wash out some of the shadow. Only editing was to trim the photograph and bring in a bit more saturation and contrast.

The second is a mountain flower.  I have no idea what it is called but I know it is a survivor.  The flower head is less than 2mm wide and the height of the stem from ground to flower is about 4 inches.  It would be easily missed.  Anyone out there know what it is?

Manual Exposure, ISO 100, f5.6, 1/400, 39mm, used an 12mm extension ring for macro shot.
