30th March 2012 – Moss and Lichen Rock

Yesterday, I posted moss and lichen on a tree.  Today, I’m posting those mosses and lichens that prefer rocks.  I suspect that these wonders of nature are well suited to very dry, hot harsh conditions in the summer and mainly snow and freezing conditions in the winter of the British Columbia/Canadian climate.  Not all lichens are green.  Many are orange and yellow, but this photo shows a black lichen on the rock.

I just love how nature adapts to suit its environment.
