17th Jan 2012 – Zoom Burst

I thought I would try a new technique today – a zoom burst.  It is a creative technique that  involves zooming the lens during a relatively slow exposure.  The effect is one of vivid movement if using landscapes etc., but as I was using an expanse of chairs as my subject, the result is quite abstract.

I was using Manual mode, shutter speed 0.4, Aperture 5.6, ISO 800, Focal Length 30.0mm

I love the way that the blue stage lighting has been picked up on the chair frames and is highlighted.  I intend to try this effect again but with other subjects.  Watch this space.
